How to refill your SodaStream in Spain

There are four ways to refill a SodaStream in Spain: swap your empty cylinder for a full one in a shop, order SodaStream's home refill (19.90 € per cylinder, plus a refundable 12.10 € deposit and 6.90 € delivery on orders under 59 €), buy a full cylinder without handing one in, or get threaded cylinders delivered by another company, such as EcoFizz (from 16 € per cylinder, delivery included). Which ones work for you depends on your cylinder: with the blue threaded one you can use any of the four; with the pink Quick Connect cylinder, SodaStream's own system, you need Quick Connect refills. EcoFizz, which wrote this guide, only supplies threaded cylinders and only delivers in mainland Spain.

Which cylinder does your SodaStream take?

SodaStream cylinders come in two types. The threaded one is blue and screws into the machine. The Quick Connect one is pink and clicks in without screwing: it's SodaStream's own system.

For now, EcoFizz only supplies threaded cylinders. If your SodaStream uses Quick Connect, our cylinders won't fit it.

Swapping your cylinder in a shop

You take your empty cylinder to a shop and leave with a full one. When we checked, SodaStream's store finder listed 259 shops in Spain that do the swap.

If the shop has stock, you have a full cylinder the same day. We haven't checked their prices or which cylinder types they swap: ask before you go.

Ordering SodaStream's home refill

SodaStream sends full cylinders to your door for 19.90 € each, plus a 12.10 € deposit per cylinder that it refunds when it receives the empty. Delivery costs 6.90 € on orders under 59 € and, according to its terms, takes 24 to 72 hours.

You return the empties to the courier or a drop-off point of its courier within 30 days. It covers threaded and Quick Connect cylinders. There's no subscription: you order a refill each time you run out.

Buying a full cylinder

If you need a spare, or have no empty to swap, you can buy a full cylinder in a shop or online without handing anything in. When it runs out, refill it with one of the other options.

We haven't checked prices or terms, so compare them before you buy.

Getting EcoFizz cylinders delivered

EcoFizz delivers threaded cylinders holding 425 g of food-grade CO₂ to your door or a GLS ParcelShop, anywhere in mainland Spain. You can place a one-time order, or subscribe and choose how often they come, every 1 to 12 weeks. Cylinders are ordered in pairs, 2 to 10 per order.

You hand the empties to the courier at your next delivery, or drop them at a GLS ParcelShop with the prepaid label or QR code we email you. We refill them with food-grade CO₂ in La Roca del Vallès, near Barcelona, and put them back into use.

When is EcoFizz not the right choice?

EcoFizz isn't the best option for everyone. Choose another one if:

Your SodaStream uses Quick Connect (the pink cylinder). We only have threaded cylinders; SodaStream's home refill covers Quick Connect.
You live in the Balearic or Canary Islands, Ceuta or Melilla. We only deliver in mainland Spain.
You need gas today. Swapping your cylinder in a nearby shop beats waiting for a delivery.
You only want one cylinder. EcoFizz cylinders are ordered in pairs, 2 to 10.
You don't want an account. You need one to order from EcoFizz, but not to swap a cylinder in a shop.

What does EcoFizz cost?

Subscription: from 16 € per cylinder, with no deposit. You choose how often (every 1 to 12 weeks) and can pause or cancel any time. The deposit is only charged if a cylinder isn't returned at the next delivery or within 7 days of it, or within 7 days if you cancel or pause.

One-time order: 17 € per cylinder, plus a 12 € deposit per cylinder that comes back as account credit when we receive your empty.

VAT, delivery and the return of your empties are included either way. If you already have empty threaded SodaStream cylinders, each one in good condition earns 12 € of credit, which can only be used on EcoFizz orders.

Can I use cylinders not made by SodaStream in my SodaStream?

If it's threaded, EcoFizz cylinders fit it: check your model on our compatibility page. If it uses Quick Connect, they don't.

What do I do with the empty cylinders I already have?

If you stay with SodaStream, you hand them in when you swap in a shop, or send them back with the home refill. If you switch to EcoFizz, send us your threaded ones: each in good condition earns 12 € of credit, which can only be used on EcoFizz orders. We don't accept Quick Connect cylinders.

How much sparkling water does one cylinder make?

Up to 60 litres, from an EcoFizz cylinder or a SodaStream refill alike. How long it lasts depends on how much sparkling water you drink.
